Why do I need to install QuickTime 7 ?

VideoDrive 1.11 and higher is a new optimized version of VideoDrive, running in both 32 and 64bit for better performance.

Snow leopard includes a new version of QuickTime, version X. QuickTime Player X is a front end to this new technology.

This player offers offers fewer conversion and save options than were found in QuickTime Player 7. Therefore, QuickTime Player 7 must be present on your system in order for VideoDrive 1.x to function properly.

Installing QuickTime Player 7 will not affect the underlying QuickTime technology in Snow Leopard - that will still be QuickTime X.  You are only installing a different front end to QuickTime X, one that offers more export options.

VideoDrive 2.0 (available soon), does not require QuickTime 7.

Install QuickTime 7 from Software Update

VideoDrive requires QuickTime 7. You can easily install QuickTime 7 using Apple Software Update. Simply download a QTZ file and open it with QuickTime X. A dialog box will appear suggesting to download QuickTime 7.

New installations of Mac OS X 10.6

The default install of Snow Leopard does not include QuickTime Player 7. Users can select to custom install QuickTime Player 7 in addition to QuickTime Player X or you can install QuickTime Player 7 afterwards, both from DVD or from the Internet.

If you are installing Snow Leopard, click the “Customize” button during the install wizard, and check the option “QuickTime 7”.

If Snow Leopard is already installed, insert the Snow Leopard Installation DVD and click “Optional Installs”. In the installation wizard, check the option “QuickTime 7”

Once you install QuickTime Player 7 under Snow Leopard, you will find the app in the Utilities folder (not the Applications folder). If you have Pro license key, you can still use it in QuickTime Player 7. Note that this is NOT required for VideoDrive to function properly.

Tip: If you do not have the Snow Leopard Installation DVD at hand, follow the instruction to download QuickTime 7 from the Apple Software Update servers as listed in the frame on top of this page.

Upgrading from Mac OS X 10.5

QuickTime 7 will be installed automatically if you are upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6 from 10.5. In this case, you only need to download VideoDrive 1.11 or higher from our downloads page.
