everything on AppleTV

white AppleTV (1st generation 2007)

If you have an unmodified, white (first-generation) AppleTV, you should use import methods 6 until 8. Videos will be converted to the H.264 format and will sync and stream to your AppleTV device.

If you use HandBrake as the conversion tool, enable the option ‘Support playback on older devices’ on the Import tab of the preferences panel.

jailbroken white AppleTV (1st generation 2007)

If you have installed additional codecs on your white (first-generation) AppleTV, you can use import method 4 to add your videos to iTunes without reconversions. The videos will sync and stream to your AppleTV device. Importing with import methods 6 until 8 is of course also supported.

Hacking your AppleTV is not supported by Aroona Software and Apple and requires some technical knowledge. You can unlock your Apple TV for free using the open-source atvusb creator, or with the $40 full-featured aTV Flash product.

Some notes on import method 4

  1. Not all formats will play correctly. For instance ,high resolution MKV-files will not run smoothy. This is due to limited CPU power of the device.

  2. If you do not have any audio,

  3. Rewinding videos may result in a crash and reboot of your AppleTV.

  4. If you do not have any sound when playing videos imported with method 4, please change the audio language setting on your AppleTV from ‘Default’ to ‘English’. This option is available under then ‘Setup’ menu.

  5. Surround sound is not supported.

black AppleTV (2th and 3th generation)

If you have a 2th generation black AppleTV, you should use import methods 6 until 8. Videos will be converted to the H.264 format and will sync and stream to your AppleTV device. If you have a 3th generation black AppleTV, you can also use import method 5, to ensure HD-image quality.
